Emily Cooper is a Year One teacher at Holy Family Primary in Wigan.

How much you are currently using AI in the classroom setting and what for (for example lesson plans), what may be holding you back if you aren’t using it regularly.

At present, AI technology is used very little in our setting. As we are a small primary school operating mixed classes we have written our own bespoke creative curriculum to deliver to our pupils. This curriculum has been written by our staff members, ensuring full coverage of the national curriculum. Our lessons are carefully planned to suit the needs of our pupils and progression is evident in all classes. At times, ChatGPT is used to locate resources eg work sheets to enhance our planning.

How much you think ChatGPT is being used by your students to complete homework tasks, and if it is easy to tell where it been used inappropriately in assignment responses?

Our homework doesn’t require ChatGPT

As far you know, does your school yet have a clear policy on AI usage for A) teachers B) students

We don’t have a policy about the usage of AI (to my knowledge). Teachers were confident in using AI in the assistance of writing our end of school reports - this was a real time saver!
