Key Summary Points

  • Cisco Networking Academy offers a comprehensive and free resource for schools to teach networking and cybersecurity.
  • The platform provides real-world skills and certifications that enhance employability for students.
  • Educators can leverage tools like Packet Tracer to simulate complex network scenarios without impacting school networks.
  • The programme supports flexible teaching approaches, allowing educators to tailor content to their curriculum needs.
  • Becoming a Cisco Academy offers reputational benefits and access to a wealth of resources and support.

The session began with an overview of the Cisco Networking Academy, a global IT and cybersecurity education programme that has been empowering students since 1997. The programme provides free, high-quality resources to schools, focusing on real-world skills aligned with market demands. This approach ensures students are well-prepared for the rapidly evolving technological landscape.

A key feature of the programme is the use of Packet Tracer, a powerful network simulation tool. Packet Tracer allows students to design, configure, and troubleshoot network topologies in a virtual environment, creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences without interfering with school networks. This capability is particularly beneficial given the constraints and security concerns associated with school networks.

The flexibility of the Cisco Networking Academy programme was also highlighted. Educators can customise courses to align with their existing curriculum, integrating networking and cybersecurity concepts seamlessly into their teaching. This adaptability supports both foundational skills and advanced topics, catering to diverse educational needs.

Becoming a Cisco Academy offers significant benefits beyond access to resources and support. Schools can market themselves as Cisco Academies, providing a compelling differentiator for prospective students and parents. This reputational advantage can enhance a school's profile and attract more students.
