Changes to NCCE Funding and Hub Support: What it means for the teacher network

CAS members will be aware that, due to the challenging fiscal situation the new Government inherited, hard decisions needed to be taken across government.  The NCCE continues, which we welcome, but has been subject to reduced funding. The Department for Education (DfE) informed STEM Learning that Grant Funding support for the Computing Hub Network will not continue into the next financial year.  As a consequence, the NCCE is largely moving to online delivery and the NCCE hubs will no longer be providing support.

While we are saddened by this, we recognise the constraints DfE is under and welcome the Government’s commitment to continue the work of the NCCE post March 2025, including the Computing Quality Framework and teacher certification programmes.

BCS’s certification work delivered through the NCCE has awarded 8645 certificates with 54,735 teachers registered for the four certificates, and BCS looks forward to working with STEM Learning to support the Computing Quality Framework and the Mark.  As the original developers of the CQF for the NCCE we welcome the opportunity to build on its success.

Of course, CAS Communities are not affected as they do not receive government funding.

It is important that momentum is not lost and we hope teachers will continue to engage with the CPD and support our communities offer. Please make sure your colleagues are registered with CAS and are:

  • signed up to our online and local community network
  • aware of our extensive resource library to support in the delivery of a creative and inclusive curriculum
  • making use of the CAS Forum to ask questions and get advice from others within the community

We will soon be introducing drop-in sessions so you can come and ask questions and get support from others in the CAS community. These will be run through our Primary and Secondary communities, so do sign up to be notified of when these will be taking place

Finally, more information on what’s happening can be found at https://teachcomputing.org/blog/ncce-offer-spring-2025.  We recommend that all CAS members read this – the NCCE is changing, but it continues and BCS, through CAS and our role in the NCCE, will continue to provide computing teachers with CPD, resources and support.
