Welcome to the Plymouth Community Hub! We are based at Devonport High School for Boys in Paradise Road, Stoke. All our face-to-face meetings will take place here and led by Paul Scott - Head of Computer Science, in conjunction with the school's CS teachers and Digital Leaders. We have lots of space for interactive hub meetings, and a range of edtech to use and borrow. DHSB is a Google school - and completely Chromebook-based. We use a range of free cloud-based resources that can really make teaching more enjoyable, whilst keeping those budgets down.
Our community aims to enthuse students of all abilities across the City to love Computer Science and apply their transferable skills in their lives. We'll make links with the Gatsby benchmarks, teacher training, and excellence in teaching through CPD and outreach opportunities.
The community is being led by Paul Scott, who has taught ICT, then Computer Science in the City since 2002. The school currently offers GCSE Computer Science OCR J277 to KS4 and A-level Computer Science OCR H446 at Post-16.
We will be placing an emphasis on building strong links with primary schools, supporting teachers in KS1 and KS2 to deliver computing fundamentals. Also trying to encourage more girls to take Computer Science at GCSE and at A-level and pursue careers in the field. An annual Computer Science Fair will be planned for 2022.
We hope to work closely with the University of Plymouth, Heart of the South West, and Plymouth Secondary Strategy to drive forward teaching excellence and improve outcomes for young people across the city.
