Thank you for this. I went and really liked it. Might go to some of the other lectures in the series, too.
Hello all, very short notice but if you are in Cambridge at 5.30pm today (Friday 24th), Simon Peyton Jones is giving a very prestigious talk at Lady Mitchell Hall, Sedgewick Site, as part of the Darwin College Lecture Series. It’s called ‘Bits With Soul’ and is for a regular audience (not CS specialists). More information here - no need to book - Lecture Series - Darwin College. All the best, Sue Sentance, University of Cambridge.
Hello all, apologies that yesterday I posted a local-to-Cambridge event without the link to sign up!
If you’d like to attend the talk by (the amazing!) Professor Matti Tedre on AI Education, then please complete this form: https://forms.gle/YqRiCk6cgHHYKcpEA. There is also more information there on the talk on the form.
Matti’s project is here: https://www.generation-ai-stn.fi/ .
As before, please do email me with any questions at ss2600@cam.ac.uk.
Sue Sentance, University of Cambridge.
If you are in Cambridge and not teaching on the 15th January, you are welcome to join us at the university for a talk at 11am by our distinguished visitor, Professor Matti Tedre of the University of Eastern Finland. Matti will be speaking about a programme for AI education that they are developing in Finland, which will include live demos of some really interesting new tools they are developing. Their approach focuses on the rights of children and data privacy in the context of learning about AI. If you’d like to attend and have lunch, please fill in this form, so that we can cater for numbers.
The title of the talk is: AI Education in Finland: technology for the ‘AI generation’ .
Contact Sue Sentance at ss2600@cam.ac.uk for more information.
(Finally) Managed to get the booking link up on to the site

On the agenda:
Action Research in the Classroom: Building on the topic from our previous meeting, discover some more about the impactful research projects some of our community have been working on. With contributions spanning both primary and secondary education phases, expect to be intrigued by the diverse and compelling projects underway.
Inspiring the Uninspired: Engage in a thought-provoking discussion on motivating those “reluctant” students. Share your insights and learn from others about effective strategies to inspire and captivate even the most hesitant learners.
Showcase Your Success: Share your triumphs! Take this opportunity to highlight the best activities or strategies you’ve implemented with your students over the last month/term. It’s a chance for mutual inspiration and a celebration of successful teaching practices.
Do join us for this opportunity to strengthen our community and get some fresh enthusiasm and ideas for your classroom!
See you there
Save the date: March 12th, 4PM-6PM for next Cambridge Hub meeting. More details and booking link soon.
Save the date: June 20th 4.00PM for this term’s Cambridge CAS meeting. Programme in planning mode but registration is open for all (both primary and secondary) at Cambridge CAS.
It was lovely to meet new faces and catch up with some ‘older hands’ last night. I’m hoping (once I work out how!) to share the slides etc with those who booked to come along. We’ll do another one in the Summer term, probably once the secondary school exams are out of the way
Looking forward to the CAS Cambridge meeting tomorrow. If you’ve not yet signed up there is still time
Thanks Pete - I’ve signed up and really looking forward to it.
Worth noting the event is open to all and it’d be lovely to hook up with other community leaders/members from across the Eastern region. I know it can be a bit of a trek getting across to Cambridge after a busy day but we’re extending into the early evening to give folk time to come.
I also hear the food will be good too
You’re invited to the CAS Cambridge meeting at Arm with special guest Simon Peyton-Jones on the 21st March. Explore how AI really works and find out more about physical computing. Book your place here: CAS Cambridge - Leading the Way
